What is a Storm Valve?
What is it?
Storm valves (also known as scupper valves) are basically swing-check valves with a closing device. A closing device is usually a hand wheel, but it can also be actuated. Storm valves are usually found on ships in sanitary piping systems that have a ship-side exit and prevent seawater from entering the system during a heavy sea. They are also used on overboard-discharge lines.
